Mobile is a LIFESTYLE and a STATEMENT

Mobile Phones... Can we live without them?

Mobile Phones... Can we live without them?

I lost my phone on my way to LCCT on Wednesday July 22nd before my flight to Penang. It’s not the most recent smartphone in the market but it served me faithfully for 3 years. At first, I am not so worried because I always keep my recent contact and calendar databases backup somewhere in the cloud. I mean, I can live with the fact that I lost my most precious possession…. The moment I realise it was stolen, I said to myself “Relax dude… your data is safe”…

My oh my… Was I wrong? Suddenly, bits and pieces of thoughts hitting my nerve system. Questions like :

“Are you sure your data is safe? All of them?”
“What if the fella unlock your password and access all your sensitive information?”
“You have more than 500 names in your contact database, do you remember their phone numbers? How many do you remember the phone numbers?”
“Did you backup your spreadsheets and documents?”
“Do you remember your next meeting?”

… and many-many MORE!!!

And for the next couple of days, my life becomes so incomplete. Normally, my phone will follow me everywhere I go, I mean EVERYWHERE… it’s the closest and dearest gadget to me.

Mobile is a LIFESTYLE

One of my favourite past-time killing is to read eBooks using my phone. It is fun and I can bring a lot of digital books with me. When I cant understand a certain word in the books that I read, I always have access to the electronic dictionary or surf online to find the meaning. It’s interactive, and resourceful.

Since I lost my phone, I went back to my old habit. Reading paper books. The actual books. This is where it becomes so boring. Reading paper is not interactive. I cant click on the word that I dont understand to copy and paste it inside internet browser. And this really made my life so… mundane…

I’m sure I’m not alone in thinking that mobile has become an important part of my life. A LIFESTYLE. It’s not only a communication tool, it’s more than that. For me, mobile phone is first and foremost, my main tool to access the cloud i.e. internet services (email, social networking, instant messaging, document management, blogging, web surfing etc). After that , it’s the voice.

Mobile is a STATEMENT

A friend of mine, who’s in the management team of a company, told me about one of the questions he normally asks during interview session for new candidates. It is “What phone do you use now?“. According to him, he can evaluate their personalities better after knowing what phone they use and how they use them.

Believe it or not, this is where the society is moving. Mobiles are also A STATEMENT for the owners.

People personalise their phones because it is their dearest possession and they want other people to know their uniqueness. In most cases, phones become accessories to their owners and there’s no limit to it. Some people go even further by decorating their phones with jewellery (diamonds, 24-karat gold etc).

There’s also people who dont want to change the looks of their phones externally but they like to install many applications and games inside their phones to ensure it has the latest and greatest in mobile.

However, for most of us, a mobile phone need to be close to us and show who we are and we customise it according to our taste and we change the wallpapers, ringtones, themes and even the housing to suit our personalities.

Remember, mobile is a lifestyle and a statement. What application do you want to develop that show your personality?
